February 12, 2013 – Brouwerij Huyghe Delirium Tremens
There are nights where you have to drink a beer that defines its genre. Tonight is one of those nights, and I popped open a Delirium Tremens to remind myself what drinking the cream of the crop tastes like. While (strangely) not ranked in Beer Advocate’s top 250, I consider this to be THE Belgian Strong Pale Ale by which to judge all others.
The pour is hazy and orange, with an ivory head that was fluffy and took forever to settle. It smells very light, of pears, apples, peach, and a bit of spice I can’t readily identify.
The flavor is almost aggressive and is downright delicious. Peaches, apples, pears, lemon… it’s all in there. Every time I sip I taste something different and yet it’s all wonderful. It’s not at all “boozy”, but instead very clear and refreshing and friendly to drink.
I’m sorry for the short review tonight, I’m getting ready to announce the winner of the VIP ticket to Brewz Crewz over on Facebook. If you haven’t entered, you’ve only got a few minutes left! Winner will be announced at 9 PM!
